Point Loma Outing

02/18/10 21:20

This morning I attended the Peninsula Breakfast Club meeting. It's a great networking group that focuses on Point Loma small businesses. After the meeting the weather was so nice and there wasn't anything on my calendar so I took a drive out to Cabrillo National Monument to see what's new. They've been updating the paths and whale watching viewpoints. They're almost finished. And, no I didn't see any whales this time.

It was simply a beautiful day to take in the scenery and enjoy a walk around the park. Here's a little treat for everyone that checks in here.

The famous Point Loma Lighthouse.

North Island Naval Air Station and the San Diego bay with the skyline barely visible through the haze of morning still hanging around. At about 70 degrees and mostly sunny, I'm not complaining!

After the rain....

It may be mid-winter and around the country everyone is dealing with cold weather and snow. Here in sunny San Diego we're blessed with those beautiful days after the rain passes and everything grows green and lush.

This image is from our garden with inset details of the best flowers. It's really cool to have all this color growing just outside.

Well, the weather finally broke (yes a whole week of rain) and the skies are blue and it's warming up. I think it got up to almost 70 today. So, about noon, we took a stroll around one of San Diego's finest places for the day. Balboa Park. It was really wonderful to simply stroll around the park without a plan. Just looking here and there all the while enjoying the fine weather.

As you can see there were plenty of people to watch and the street performers were out too. Our interests were in the botanical things and museum gift shops.

One of my favorite places in the park is the sculpture garden. I just think it's a fun place to sit and relax.

Rain rain....

Well, it's been several days of rain now and I'm ready for some sunshine. The weather guys say it's on the way. But, I haven't seen it yet. The rain last night was so heavy I had to go outside and grab a couple of shots. Wow! Was the rain really coming down! In the hour I watched I measured another inch on the rain gage.

Well everyone, it does in deed rain in Southern California. Just not very often. This afternoon here in San Diego we were blasted with high winds and heavy rain. It only lasted for about two hours and left us with about an inch and a half of rainfall here. The weather experts say there's going to be two more storms this week and they're supposed to be even bigger. We'll wait and see. For now, though, we had a little break and it was a lovely sunset again.
